Paratriathlete Aaron Scheidies wins the Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 World Championship in the PC Division
Scheidies Partners with TriBike Transport in Multi-year Endorsement Deal "I wasn't afraid to go at it today and give 100% to this race." Scheidies said, "I'm more of a short course kind of guy, but it seem like the stars were aligned today and I was able to take on this challenge and swim, run and ride with the best of them." This race marked 27-year-old Scheidies third championship win of the season, with the first at the 2009 Accenture ParaTriathlon National Championships that coincided with the New York City Triathlon in July. Scheidies followed the NYC victory with a 1st place podium finish at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships in Australia's Gold Coast. Scheidies, a Seattle-based athlete, had the opportunity to be among the first in the water at the swim start in Clearwater, beginning the race with the professional women's division and coming out of the 1.2 mile swim in a blazing 25:39. Riding tandem on the 56 mile bike course, Scheidies and Miller had an enviable moment in which they lead the entire pack of both the pro men and women on the ride. The duo finished the second leg of the race in 2:07:57. "One of the shining moments of the day was when we revved up the tandem and blasted by the entire pro field to lead the race," Scheidies said with elation. "This was a moment that may not happen again." Crossing the finish line after a 13.1 mile run completed in 1:39:12, Scheidies gave the fans, sponsors, organizers, but mostly Miller, tremendous accolades for helping Scheidies, considered the #1 visually impaired triathlete in the world, win on the world's stage. "I am so proud of my guide Matt Miller and all of the hard work and life changes he made in order to propel me to this World Championship," said Scheidies. "Until you guide a blind athlete you never can fully understand the mental and physical demands that it requires. I didn't win this World Championship. Matt and I both won it." A physical therapist with his doctorate from University of Washington, Scheidies proudly has added TriBike Transport, the preeminent bike transportation company for triathlon events, to his family of sponsors that include K-Swiss, RehabCare, XTerra Wetsuits, Computrainer, Rola, Advocare, C Different Foundation, and CAF.
